At least 400 primary and 200 secondary schools in the country have no access to water sources, a development that may negatively affect the fight against the spread of Covid-19 when schools re-open from September 7 this year.

This was disclosed Thursday in Mzimba when Minister of Education, Science and Technology Agnes Nyalonje went to see the measures being put in place to curb the spread of the virus when schools re-open.

However, Nyalonje was quick to state that they have put in place deliberate measures where, for instance, communities and leaners in these schools will be bringing their own water while the ministry, with support from non state actors such as Water Aid is working towards providing water to the affected institutions.
